This Amaretto Sour cocktail is bursting with flavor from fresh lemon juice and almond liqueur. It is the perfect pre-dinner cocktail or after dinner sipper.

The creation of this recipe was sponsored by Sodastream.
Sparkling water is a bit of a staple in our house. I don't do soft drinks or juices. But sometimes I just get tired of drinking plain water.
So if I'm not having a cocktail or glass of wine, I like to switch things up with a glass of sparkling water and sometimes a squeeze of lime. It adds a lovely little fizz that dances on your tongue.
A few years ago, sick of lugging bottles of sparkling water home from the supermarket, I invested in a Sodastream. (<< I highly recommend checking it out for yourself!)
And now rarely a day goes by where I don't make a bottle of sparkling water.
And it also comes in handy for making delicious sparkling cocktails. First up, is this Amaretto Sour cocktail.
If you've never had one, you're in for a treat.
An Amaretto Sour is the perfect aperitif (a cocktail that is served to stimulate the appetite before a meal).

What's in an Amaretto Sour?
It's a tart and refreshing combination of lemon juice, almond liqueur, sugar syrup, and ice.
Classic Amaretto Sours actually don't call for soda water at all. But I always add it - it transforms an otherwise overly sweet drink into a delicious cocktail that is more like an Amaretto spritzer!
I also use maple syrup in my Amaretto Sour in place of ordinary simple syrup. It adds a great depth of flavor and subtle nuttiness.
How to Make an Amaretto Sour
In a cocktail shaker, combine amaretto liquer, lemon juice, maple syrup, and a dash of bitters.
Pour over ice. If desired, add a splash of sparkling soda water.

We have an older style SodaStream. It's so simple to use- my 10 year old makes her own drinks every night.
I love using sparkling water, mixed with apple juice. Serve it to the kids in fancy plastic glasses- Apple Mocktails for the kids!

If I won I would make sugar free diet drinks for my family so that they don't miss out when we are out and about. Cottees diet Rasberry and apple cordial is delicious in a soda stream as it lemon, lime and bitters SF cordial. I had it at a friends house and would love to be able to make it at home.
Shane says
If I won the soda stream I would make the fizziest of drinks for my wife and happily donate the soda stream maker and bottles we have in the cupboard to our eldest son!
Nicole @ Delicious Everyday says
That sounds wonderful Shane. Best of luck. 🙂

I'd love a sodastream so I can make myself and my new fiance an Aperol Spritz! we tasted this amazing drink on our first trip overseas to Italy together this year and fell madly inlove with it. The new sodastream will be an amazing addition to our new kitchen in our little love nest and we'd celebrate by making the delicious drink from our frist holiday!

Hi Jennifer, my husband and I drink LOTS of soda water, so much so we buy it in the box. We did consider getting a Soda Stream, but thought the 75cents for 1.25 ltrs was a more economical way to go. Has anyone done the calculations to determine which is the most economical way to go, soda stream or buying it at .75cents for 1.25 ltrs?
My concoction would be, lemomcello, vodka, scoop of lemon sorbet topped with soda water.....YUM!
Nicole @ Delicious Everyday says
Kaz, I did the maths a while ago and it did work out cheaper. However, the biggest thing for me, is the reduction in waste as you can simply wash out and reuse the bottles and the fact I don't need to carry heavy bottles from the supermarket anymore. Those things have definitely made it worth it for me. Anyway, best of luck in the giveaway 🙂
Kaz says
Thanks Jennifer, will let my husband know. I agree, much more practicable and less waste. Husband even puts soda water in his nightly port......aquired taste I think...lol
Desiree says
One of my favorite drinks is grapefruit sparkling water. A Sodastream to make unlimited sparkling water in any flavor is a great idea!
Steve Dingwall says
I would make my own twist on a Back Forty (bourbon, lemon, maple club soda). Also like to start making unique tonic waters.
Nicole @ Delicious Everyday says
I've never heard of a Back Forty, but it sounds fabulous Steve. Exactly like something my husband would enjoy. I'll have to make it for him. Best of luck in the giveaway 🙂

Hello Jennifer, I love your website. You create wonderful recipes and your photography is wonderful. I would make a Spritz to remind me of our trip to Italy.

I'd definitely make a gin on ice with elderflower cordial and a twist of lime and topped with soda water. Yum! Our much loved soda stream is making very funny noises, so I'll have to look into fancy new ones!

Sounds delish Mel! Best of luck in the competition.

1 oz White Rum
3 dashes Blue Curaçao
1 oz Peach Schnapps
1 oz Grenadine
2 oz Lemonade
Method: On the rocks
Glass: Collins
Recipe:
Fill the collins glass 3/4 with ice.
Add peach schnapps, white rum, then grenadine.
Use a bar spoon (or any spoon with a long handle) to gently lift the grenadine through the ice.
Top with lemonade to taste, but leave enough room for the next step.
Once you have mixed, drizzle a small amount of blue curacao down the sides of the glass.
The blue curacao will fall through the red cocktail leaving a trail of purple clouds. and beautiful gradient between red and blue.
Nicole @ Delicious Everyday says
Sounds wonderful Sussi 🙂 Good luck!

I'm with you Jennifer - I buy sooooo many bottles of soda water, I end up buying them in slabs of 12 bottles before they even get unpacked on the shelf, so being able to fizz up my own water whenever I want would be fantastic. But, I think I would also love to use the Sodastream Power to take me back to my childhood by making that classic kids pub drink - a raspberry soda. I can taste the tart fizziness already!
Nicole @ Delicious Everyday says
Oh I had those raspberry sodas when I was a kid too! They were delish, although I'm sure they'd be far too sweet for me these days. Nothing ever tastes too sweet when you're a kid 🙂
Maneesha Pradhan says
I enjoy sparkling water so this would be great for my everyday use. I also enjoy making spritz cocktails
Lena says
I would love a soda stream, we go through so many bottles in our household! I'm getting married in October and a soda based cocktail is on our must-have list so I would be doing lots of cocktail recipe testing - starting with a refreshing lime caprioska! Fresh lime muddled with raw sugar, vodka and topped with lots of bubbly soda water. Perfect for a spring wedding 🙂
Nicole @ Delicious Everyday says
Congratulations on getting married Lena. My husband and I had a spring wedding (we got married 3 years ago) and it is such a wonderful time of the year to get married. And your lime, raw sugar and vodka cocktail sounds perfect for the weather. My husband and I had mojitos on our wedding day (our favourite cocktail).
Best of luck in the giveaway!! 🙂
Bhiravi says
This looks delicious! Love the touch of maple syrup. The first thing I'd make with a Soda Stream would probably be... a sparkling lavender lemonade!
Tamara says
Jennifer, your Amaretto Sour Cocktail is perfect for this girl that likes anything but sweet! The flavors look lovely, and I'm thinking they might fit in well on the deck in Wimberley, Texas on vacation 🙂 I'd find all sorts of uses for this Soda Stream, but getting rid of obnoxious plastic bottles would be my top priority! I love sparkling water with a bit of fruit and salt (I have electrolyte imbalance at times). It would be perfect!
Helen says
Your cocktail sounds delicious! With a Sodastream Power on hand you could also whip up a classic Campari soda any old time. Yum.
Maree Sperle says
I am wanting to make cocktails using the soda stream., Great combination for delicious drinks.
Robyn Matthews says
Thanks so much for sharing the Amaretto Sour recipe which would be the very first thing I would try with my brand new SodaStream. I also recently had a fantastic drink in Bali that I would love to recreate: homemade ginger syrup, fresh ginger slices, fresh lime and soda water. Though, the best thing about owning a SodaStream would be no longer having to purchase drinks in the plastic bottles, which are sold to us by drink companies, and are destroying our environment.
Nicole @ Delicious Everyday says
The cocktail you had in Bali sounds divine Robyn! And I agree, the reduction in waste by using a Sodastream is another great benefit to owning one. Best of luck in the draw.
Sue Heward says
My current fav cocktail is Pimms, lemon soda and green ginger wine with mint from the garden. A new soda stream would be perfect to make lemon soda using the masses of lemons we have out in the garden
Nicole @ Delicious Everyday says
I love a Pimms cocktail. You've reminded me it has been far too long since I've had one! 🙂
Laurin says
Ooh this looks amazing! I even have some amaretto! Definitely gonna have to try this one 🙂
I love sparkling water with cordial.. I've seen a delicious looking syrup of orange and cassia that I'd love to try with the SodaStream 🙂
Melissa @ My Wife Can Cook says
One of my friends raves about her Sodastream. I think I would make something fruity? Maybe mixed with some of the herbal simple syrup we have in our fridge right now?
Allison Owen says
Yum! What WOULDN'T I make is more the question?? First thing on my list would be a lemony lemonade, maybe to add to a vodka or two ?
Nicole @ Delicious Everyday says
Sounds wonderful Allison 🙂
Amanda Newell says
I would try to make champagne!
Nicole @ Delicious Everyday says
Hehe if only a Sodastream could make wonderful champagne. 🙂
Sarah @ Champagne Tastes says
I love the idea of putting sparkling water in your amaretto sour! I saw an Alton Brown recipe for a mint julep with sparkling water awhile back, but I hardly ever have it on hand. That soda stream's a great idea - I always ignored them because I don't drink soda!
Nicole @ Delicious Everyday says
I never thought I'd use a SodaStream since I don't drink soft drink either, but it is perfect for sparkling water. On a hot summers day there is nothing better than a glass of sparkling water with a wedge of lime. 🙂
Debbie Newman says
I love Delicious everyday Jennifer. It is totally inspiring and delicious in every way. If I was lucky enough to win I would give it to my youngest daughter for her birthday next month.!She has been studying at 3 different units in Brisbane for 9 years and working so hard she has nearly finished. She developed a passion for soda water from a very young age and it is a staple in her fridge. The drink I would make would be a Hugo. Hugo is the name of one of her little dogs, unfortunately due to changed circumstances in her life she has had to part with one of her dogs, Victor, hard for her but he is going to a very loving home. She has kept Hugo.
The drink I would make would be for her on her birthday and it is aptly named a Hugo!
Hugo recipe
100ml of Prosecco.
150ml of Soda Water
10mls of Elderflower syrup (add more for a sweeter drink)
2tsp of fresh lime juice
4 mint leaves, or extra if desired
Ice cubes
How to mix Hugo
In a large wine glass muddle the mint leaves
throw in some ice cubes
Add Elderflower Syrup
add the Prosecco and Soda Water
Cut some slices of lime and add for a 'hey good lookin' drink as well as delicious.
With thanks and gratitude Jennifer.
Nicole @ Delicious Everyday says
That's lovely Debbie. And the Hugo sounds delicious. I love Elderflower. Best of luck. 🙂
